The Competitive Intelligence (CI) team is a critical part of our Markets and Business Development function. This function brings together business sector, and account knowledge along with EY competencies and solutions to meet unique client needs. The Markets and Business Development organization shapes and drives an integrated growth strategy across EY’s largest accounts, industry sectors, solutions and services. We are looking for a Competitive Intelligence Manager with a strong research background to join our team.

The Opportunity

As a CI Manager, you will play a pivotal role in our business development efforts. Joining a growing CI team, you will use your research, analysis and executive presentation skills to develop and deliver a range of actionable CI products. Working individually and leading team members, you will collect and transform market data, competitor information and sales performance data into actionable intelligence for client proposals. You will prepare competitor playbooks, win-loss assessments, responses to fast cycle CI requests and train sales and pursuit teams on competitive best practices.

Your key responsibilities

As the CI Manager, you will be responsible for a wide range of projects, with a focus on:

  • Primary and Secondary Research – Conduct research using a variety of internal and external sources, including stakeholder interviews, and then apply or develop frameworks to the information you gather to create net new insights on how to compete.

  • Data Analysis – Collect and analyze competitive intelligence data from relevant internal sources and third-party analyst firms to infuse a data-driven approach to competitive insights.

  • Products – Build, maintain and enhance a portfolio of highly consumable competitive intelligence deliverables (e.g., competitor profiles, battlecards, win-loss dashboards) that can be used strategically across proposals.

  • Stakeholder Relationships – Become a trusted advisor to leaders involved in deal governance, identifying their needs and providing intelligence in pursuit meetings that improve their decisions.

  • Technology – Manage CI technology to improve analysis and communication of intelligence to stakeholders.

  • Collaboration – Establish strong networks with other teams in the Markets and Business Development function to maximize the flow of information and maximize opportunities to embed competitive insights in competitive enablement generated across the firm.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A University/Bachelor’s degree

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in competitive intelligence or related research roles

  • A track record of analyzing information to draw insightful, actionable conclusions

  • Experience engaging networks and conducting interviews to collect primary information

  • Experience with surveys and analyzing and interpreting quantitative data

  • Experience developing frameworks and presentations to communicate concepts

  • Ability to challenge established thinking

  • Ability to write compelling, succinct content

  • Ability to take ownership for delivering customized projects with autonomy and working independently in a virtual environment

  • Strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Great story-telling skills that engage stakeholders and motivate them to act

  • First-hand experience using Market and Competitive Intelligence platforms (e.g., AlphaSense, Factiva, Klue, Crayon, Contify, etc.)

  • Experience with professional services in either consulting, tax, or assurance

  • Power BI experience

  • An advanced degree

What we offer

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $113,200 to $205,500. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $135,800 to $233,500. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances. You’ll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
