Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. DARE is a diverse group working in nearly every area of agriculture focused on teaching, research and Extension activities. Considering how we make decisions and think about agriculture and natural resources at every level of economics, education, and policy is our primary contribution to agricultural sciences.

Position Summary

This position coordinates and supports the Colorado Food Systems Advisory Council. The Colorado Food Systems Advisory Council ( COFSAC ) is a 23-member legislatively mandated body comprised of a broad spectrum of representatives from government and non-government entities. The volunteer members represent most sectors of the food system. The Staff Director for the Colorado Food Systems Advisory Council is responsible for:

  • Serving as the university’s primary point of contact for governmental, NGO , and other non-extension community-based food systems initiatives seeking collaboration and support and CSU food systems stakeholders including campus and field-based staff and students.

  • Collaborating with the State Coordinator of the NW and Rocky Mountain Regional Food Business Center to fulfill Colorado’s engagement initiatives.

  • Pursuing external funds to advance key priorities and projects as identified by the COFSAC Council.

  • Supporting externally funded projects through meeting facilitation, writing grant reports, contributions to newsletters and public facing communications, and evaluating results/impacts.

  • Completing all COFSAC required reporting and evaluation in a timely manner.

  • Supporting and securing funding for graduate student research assistants.

  • Supporting internal and external communication strategy, including e-newsletters, webinars, and websites.

  • Other duties as assigned/needed.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree + a minimum of 3 years professional experience in project management related to food systems policy, research, and engagement.ORMasters degree in project management related to food systems policy, research, and engagement.

  • Demonstrated project and group management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Expertise in working with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Ability to pass both CSU and USDA background checks.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Extensive professional experience in project management related to food systems policy, research, and engagement.

  • Advanced degree in project management related to food systems policy, research, and engagement.

  • Experience raising and managing external funds.

  • Strong background in issues relevant to food systems and business development, especially state policy in food, public health and procurement issues.

  • Expertise in one or more social science disciplines related to food systems.

  • Demonstrated experience working with and commitment to Land Grant Universities, Extension, and engaged activities.

  • Training in DEI issues and experience working with diverse, and particularly underserved, audiences.

  • Experience in event planning and external stakeholder engagement.

  • Provide staff leadership to COFSAC , a legislatively created and governor appointed advisory council.

  • Work with COFSAC leadership and members to identify priority projects, conduct research and outreach, develop, and maintain key stakeholder relationships.

  • Prepare agendas and financial reports for quarterly meetings and complete all necessary reporting to state agencies and committees.

  • Provide staff support to council-lead working groups and initiatives.

  • Supervise and direct the work of administrative assistant.
