Job Description:

This position is covered by the federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991. Individuals applying for this position or incumbents of this position are required to hold a valid commercial driver license as a condition of employment. The act requires that all such individuals be subject to pre-employment and continuing post-employment drug and alcohol testing. Failure to comply with such testing is grounds for immediate dismissal from employment with UF.

This position requires participation and successful progression in the CPP until Level 4 certification has been obtained.

Maintain fixtures and perform lighting preventive maintenance inspections (PMI) (on campus outdoor lighting system including streetlights, parking lot lights, exterior building lights, and traffic signals). Perform manhole PMI and pump out manholes, and infrared terminations and splices for switches. Perform routine preventive maintenance and repair standard electrical distribution equipment. Perform transformers PMI settings, gauges maintenance, infrared testing, etc. Performs oil sampling, gas analysis, record amps, substation battery test, crosswalk inspections, relay PMI, and the line truck vehicle PMI. Assist in pole PMI, cross arms maintenance, ground resistance readings, and substations infrared testing. Clean, maintain, and repair all equipment and tools used by the power distribution crew, including a 51-foot reach bucket truck, a 30-foot hoist truck, etc. Maintain records of routine maintenance and repairs.

Maintain, alter, and repair existing wiring and electrical circuits. Assist in installing conduit for electrical systems. Assist in primary systems cable pulling, installations, splices, terminates, pulling out slack, and repairing primary and secondary overhead and underground distribution facilities. Assist in building transformer banks and transformer platforms. Assist in constructing and installing system components, equipment, and fixtures. Perform switching of high voltage feeders in manholes, electrical vaults, substations, and on poles for medium voltage systems to maintain system balance, repair, and add to electrical systems, while maintaining power to buildings. Assist higher-level technicians in developing switching orders. Assist higher-level technicians with inspecting contractors’ work. Perform switching orders, breaker operations, and conduit pulling. Connect, disconnect, and replace service loops. Work on energized lines requiring use of aerial devices, hot line tools, and insulated gloves.

Assist in troubleshooting, analyzing, calibrating, and modifying a variety of devices using standard test equipment. Locate and correct power failures, short circuits lower end, and short circuits higher end. Drive state vehicle or walk to customer/trouble location.

Begins and completes selected NCCER modules Power Line Worker series (Part 1) and demonstrates competency.

Position requires a Valid Driver License and a Commercial Driver License, Class B CDL [within 180 days of hire]

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

7:30am-4:00pm M-F

Schedule may vary depending on location

Total hours per week: 40

Work emergencies as needed

Work swing shift, weekend duty, and on-call as required

A criminal background and post-offer health assessment will be conducted.

Expected Salary:

$25.69 Hourly

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma and four years of appropriate experience in electrical work; appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience - Currently NCCER Certified Plus Electrician or Licensed Electrician or pass NCCER Electrician Knowledge Verification. - Complete NCCER Core within 6 months.
