Youth Apprentices in nurse aide roles join a dedicated nursing team providing the excellent patient care we’ve come to be known for. You will work with a nurse mentor who will help guide your training while providing ongoing support in the role. If direct patient care is exciting for you and you’ve already completed the Wisconsin Nurse Aide certification training with a passing score on the state exam, this could be the perfect role for you.
Job Details
Effectively work as part of a team, communicate effectively with close attention to details
Maintain academic and attendance requirements for participation in the Youth Apprenticeship Program
Participate in progress reviews scheduled with mentors, school staff, parent(s) or guardian(s), and employer
Contribute to the overall quality and safe care for patients by answering call lights, taking vital signs and monitoring behavior and physical condition
Create a positive patient experience by assisting patients with their activities of daily living including assisting with baths, ambulating, feeding, skin care, personal and oral hygiene and making occupied and unoccupied beds
Assist with performing procedures such as toileting, turning, cough and deep breathing, catheter care, collection of biological specimens, measuring and recording intake and output of fluids
Contribute to exceptional patient satisfaction by establishing a compassionate environment by timely responses to patients' needs, open communication and providing emotional and psychological support
Contribute to safety and quality care by relaying information via charting and communicating to team members
Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements
Passing score on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide certification exam
High school junior or senior
16 years of age
Must be authorized and approved by the Wisconsin Youth Apprentice Program in accordance with your local school criteria
Reliable transportation to get to and from work
Satisfactory progress towards graduation
Commit to completing 450 hours at the jobsite (10-15 hours/week)
Demonstrated maturity and responsibility
Skill with attending to details, excellent attendance and a strong work ethic
Foster a culture of caring through interpersonal relationshipsand communication

Job Summary:
Under direct supervision, assists with the duties and responsibilities of the clinical role being studied. All work performed is reviewed by clinical supervisor or designee.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with the duties and responsibilities of the clinical role being studied based on the applicable Youth Apprenticeship on-the-job learning performance standards guide.
Apprenticeship may involve working in one the following areas: Lab, Therapy, Medical Assistant, Pharmacy, Imaging, Nursing Assistant, etc.
Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Must be at least 16 years of age prior to start date and current high school student.
Acceptance into Youth Apprenticeship program through local high school.
EXPERIENCE
- No experience required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
Rare climbing.
